Treasurer: Ross Davis, BCom ACA

Ross worked as an accountant in New Zealand and London before buying and building a family design and printing business where he employed 40 staff. After volunteering in youth work for over 20 years he left a successful career in the corporate world to undertake an important mission in youth work that combines both his business and youth passions. Now, as Director of Youth and Community Projects, Ross spends his time supporting the team of youthworkers at BGI [Wellington Boys’ & Girls’ Institute]. This 123yr old organisation was searching for a new direction until Ross moved to Poneke (Wellington) from Tamaki Makarau with his wife and three kids in 2002. Under his leadership BGI has undertaken innovative youth projects that seek both to challenge stereotypes and to build connections between BGI and its founding Presbyterian church, local & central government, corporates and the wider community. Ross’s approach reincorporates traditional beliefs of relationality, connectedness and holistic youth development. He does this in partnership with young people and his Maori, Pakeha and Pacific whanau.

Secretary: Sarah Finlay

Sarah was born in the mighty Waikato and has lived in the communities of Whangarei, Christchurch, and Palmerston North and now calls Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) home. She has over 10 years experience in the youth sector (both in volunteer and paid positions). Sarah has set up programmes for young people in care and in transition. She has worked alongside young people and communities using a community action approach to reduce drug related harm.  She now works for Auckland City Council as the youth programme adviser. Her passion is to see vibrant, resilient and connected young people with a strong voice in their communities and local environments.

She loves: youth development, youth participation, community development, creative communication and facilitation, hanging out with young people and youth workers, emergent and organic practice. She's a body-jam veteran, painter, singer and dress designer and loves travelling to Espana and Ecuador.

She has a B.A. in Sociology, a post-graduate Diploma in Development Studies, and has recently completed her Masters of Health Science looking at young people's perspectives on their participation in community development programmes and how it contributes to their wellbeing. She's passionate about ensuring young people's voices shape research process outcomes, rather than being shaped by them.
